Chipper Jones Sign Extension

Chipper Jones and the Atlanta Braves have signed a 3 year extension. The deal will take the two parties through 2013 and will be worth more then $40 million.

  1. Does this seem like a good move for the Braves to you? He's going to be in his 40's when he gets done with this one and he can't stay productive for that long I wouldn't think.

  2. He will be 40 when the contract ends. He has given us no reason to believe that he can't be productive until then. They will probably move him into LF by the end of that though.

  3. Will he have the wheels to play outfield??

  4. I agree with Josh--Chipper has been very productive the last few years, even if his power numbers slip a bit (and for some reason I think they will), he still will get on base and hit for average (sort of like what happened to Todd Helton). Plus, if Barry Bonds can play outfield into his 40s, Chipper can.

  5. True Greg, but of course Barry Bonds had some serious help with playing outfield into his 40's.

  6. For a corner outfielder he will do just fine. See Adam Dunn, Bobby Abreu, Brian Giles, Carlos Lee, Cliff Floyd etc.
