Quick News

Just thought I would mention some things I saw today. The Tampa Bay Rays released Morgan Ensberg today after he hit .227 in 50 plate appearances this spring. Also Marcus Giles of the Philadelphia Phillies and David Newhan of the Huston Astros were released.

On a side note it appears that Brad Wilkerson (Boston Red Sox, OF,1B) will not make the team, and he will probably choose to become a free agent.

  1. So long Brad! Rumors of your demise have been anything but exaggerated...
I've been a Chris Carter fan for a while, and I'm of the mind that he is a legit major league bat, I just hope he can make the best of his Giambi-esque fielding skills. However, Jeff Bailey's OPS was about 100 points higher last season in AAA; I guess it comes down to whether the Sox are looking for a lefty or righty bat off the bench.

  2. I feel that the Red Sox are going to go with Jeff Bailey over Chris Carter for the last roster spot because of his versatility over Carter. Carter is a mediocre fielder and a good hitter. He is essentially the same player they traded for him (Willy Mo Pena, OF) juts older with less power. Bailey can play 1B and OF with better defense and some pop in his bat. On top of that they can put Bailey at first on days that Mike Lowell needs a day off and play either Kevin Youkilis or Jed Lowrie at 3B.

  3. Jeff Bailey is also out of options, where Chris Carter is not.

  4. Apparently Chris Carter got the slot.
